We do not collect payment card data directly. All in-app purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store and governed by their respective privacy policies.
3 How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Deliver the core features of the app — catch logging, zone maps, fishing forecasts, regulation summaries, and community features
- Provide location-based features: zone detection, nearby community catches, water temperature from nearby readings
- Send push notifications you have opted into (catch activity, community interactions)
- Analyse aggregate, anonymised usage patterns to improve the app (via Google Analytics — see Section 4)
- Respond to support requests and feedback you send us
- Enforce our Terms of Use and prevent fraud or abuse
4 Google Analytics & Third-Party Services
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how users interact with the app. This service collects anonymised usage data including screen views, feature engagement, session duration, and crash reports. This data is used solely to improve app performance and user experience — it is never used to identify individuals or serve ads.
We also use the following third-party services to operate the app:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database hosting, user authentication, file storage | supabase.com/privacy |
| Google Analytics for Firebase | App usage analytics to improve the product | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Open-Meteo | Weather forecast data (no personal data shared) | open-meteo.com/en/terms |
| ip-api.com | IP-based province detection for initial location (IP address only, not stored) | ip-api.com/docs/legal |
| Apple / Google | Push notifications, in-app purchases | Apple: apple.com/legal/privacy Google: policies.google.com/privacy |
| Google Gemini | AI assistant responses and automated photo moderation (see "AI Features" below) | policies.google.com/privacy |
AI Features (Google Gemini)
Two features of the app send data to Google Gemini, a third-party AI service operated by Google:
- AI Assistant (opt-in): When you enable the in-app assistant, each message you send is shared with Google together with your recent catch history (species, size, and date), the names and categories of your saved map pins, and your selected province, so the assistant can personalise its answers. No precise GPS coordinates, photos, or contact details are included. The assistant sends nothing until you explicitly agree to this in the app, and you can turn it off at any time from the assistant panel.
- Automated photo moderation: Photos you attach to catches, map pins, or violation reports are analysed by Gemini before they are saved, to block explicit or unsafe content from the community. Only the photo itself is sent — no account information accompanies it.
Google processes this data to generate responses and content classifications under Google's Privacy Policy and the Gemini API terms, which provide data protections consistent with this policy. We do not send this data to any other AI provider, and we do not use it for advertising.
None of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own commercial purposes beyond providing services to us.
5 Location Data
TrueNorthAngler requests access to your device's GPS location to:
- Detect your nearest fishing zone and display applicable regulations
- Generate a personalised fishing forecast for your exact coordinates
- Show community catches near you
- Tag catch logs with coordinates (only if you choose to log them)
Location is accessed only while the app is in use (foreground only). We do not track your location in the background.
When you share a catch with the community, only an approximate area is visible to other users — your exact GPS coordinates are never shown publicly.
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app will continue to function with reduced accuracy using your selected province.
6 Community & Shared Content
When you choose to share a catch with the community, the following become visible to other users of the app: species, count, approximate location, date, photo (with watermark), and any notes you add.
Private messages between users are encrypted in transit (TLS) and stored in our database. We do not read private messages except when required to investigate a reported abuse complaint.
All community sharing is opt-in. Your catches are private by default.
7 How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Listed in Section 4 above, under strict confidentiality agreements
- Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of users
- Business transfer: If TrueNorthAngler Inc. is acquired or merges, your data may transfer to the successor — we will notify you and you may delete your account before any transfer
- With your consent: For any other purpose, only with your explicit agreement
8 Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
- Your profile, catch logs, photos, and community posts are permanently deleted
- Private messages are deleted from both sides of the conversation
- Anonymised, aggregated analytics data (via Google Analytics) may be retained as it cannot be attributed to you
- We may retain certain records for up to 90 days for fraud prevention and legal compliance
To request account deletion, email fieldtagca@gmail.com or use the Delete Account option in the app's settings.
9 Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- TLS encryption for all data in transit
- AES-256 encryption for data at rest
- Row-level security (RLS) policies ensuring users can only access their own data
- Role-based access controls limiting which team members can access user data
No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please email us at fieldtagca@gmail.com and we will respond within 48 hours.
10 Children's Privacy
TrueNorthAngler is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at fieldtagca@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
