A 7-day, AI-powered bite forecast for 50+ species across Canada — built on real fishing science, not folklore. Know whether today is worth casting a line before you leave the driveway.
Every angler has asked: "Is today actually a good day to fish?" TrueNorthAngler answers it with a data-driven forecast that weighs six environmental factors, applies a seasonal multiplier, and gives you a clear bite score for each of the next seven days.
Our two-layer model combines a daily bite score (how good the day is overall) with an intraday feeding-window prediction (the specific hours fish will be most active). The daily score sums six weighted factors to 100 points, then a seasonal multiplier adjusts for time of year (×0.85 to ×1.15). A hard safety gate caps the score during storms or dangerous wind.
The single biggest factor. We use a trailing 7-day weighted mean of air temperature to model water temp — not a crude 'air minus 2'. Cold-blooded fish feed aggressively in their preferred thermal range.
Wind concentrates baitfish and pushes plankton into shorelines. We weight wind 18% of the daily score. Sustained wind over 45 km/h triggers a hard safety gate — stay home.
Falling pressure before a front triggers aggressive feeding; rising pressure after a front shuts it down. We model pressure trend and front passage — 16% of the daily score.
Overcast skies extend the feeding window. Predators like pike and walleye feed longer on dark days. Cloud contributes 12% of the daily score.
Major and minor solunar periods align with peak feeding times. We compute precise dawn/dusk feeding windows for your location and target species.
Light rain can turn fish on; heavy rain muddies water and shuts it down. We factor in rainfall intensity and recent accumulation.
Our species resolver maps every fish in Canadian waters to a forecast profile — exact species match, canonical name, or known alias. That means whether you're targeting walleye on Lake of the Woods or Arctic char in Nunavut, you get a real forecast tuned to that species' behaviour.
Knowing the day is good isn't enough — you need to know when. Our intraday model computes dawn and dusk feeding windows using your exact latitude/longitude and the solunar calendar, so you know the precise hours to be on the water.
Plan your fishing trips around the best days, not the most convenient ones.
Switch the forecast to your target species — walleye, bass, trout, pike, salmon and more.
The forecast automatically finds the nearest waterbody for your favourite species.
Log your catches and the app learns which conditions work for you over time.
