Seasons at a glance

Spring (April–June): steelhead runs, early stoneflies and mayfly hatches, hungry post-winter trout. Summer (June–August): peak dry-fly season on trout streams; salmon runs begin in the east. Fall (September–October): fall steelhead, aggressive brown trout pre-spawn, spectacular scenery. Many trout streams close in winter — always check provincial seasons.

Every province requires a fishing licence, and many premier fly waters have special rules — fly-only sections, barbless hooks, catch-and-release zones, and seasonal closures.
